Wake Health Additive Manufacturing

Overview of Services

The Wake Health Additive Manufacturing Core is directed by Dr. Philip Brown, Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering. The core laboratory is supported by professional faculty, staff, and graduate students. The core provides professional, efficient, and economic service to the Wake Forest clinical physicians and research faculty with onsite additive manufacturing, design services, and anatomical modeling. Parts produced through the core help to remove the burden of mechanical design and production from the researcher or clinician to the core staff. The core’s primary mission is to reduce the time, cost, and/or difficulty of specialized clinical or laboratory tasks or problems through creative design and manufacturing. The core provides a range of cutting-edge engineering grade materials and design software tools to produce parts as requested and payable upon delivery. Dr. Brown and his team have produced numerous models including custom medical devices, pre-surgical anatomical models, tools/jigs/fixtures, and general mechanical prototypes.
